Exile Vienna

Exile

Harmony Theory by John Adams

Exile was composed to the music of the American composer John Adams. His 40-minute orchestral work "Harmonielehre" is inspired by Arnold Schoenberg's work of the same name. The title of the choreography refers to the hopes, fears, dreams and memories of families that are excluded or disadvantaged with children living in exile. Exile is dedicated to the memory of people who have been displaced, suffering the consequences of torture, oppression and violence. Images of mistreatment by Nazis during the Second World War, the arrival of African boat refugees, and the oppression of women feature regularly in the choreography.
