Encounters

Performance project with dancers from the Feuervogel ensemble.

"Some enthusiastic members of the Feuervogel Ensemble requested additional training aside from the usual rehearsals for ‘the Firebird’. This resulted in the creation of a small dance group with whom I continued to work with, outside the main rehearsals. As well as exploring different dance techniques such as contact improvisation and contemporary dance, a wide variety of movement sequences developed quickly, which was strongly influenced by the dancers' own personal dance moves. The desire for another public performance was awakened. I challenged the group not to dance in the protected space of the stage, but in the middle of the audience, in the foyer of the State Theatre. We called the dance "Encounters". In a continuation of the project, the dance moves and ideas from "Encounters" were further developed into an evening-long programme. This was followed by an invitation to perform in Wolfsburg for the ‘Pupils' Theatre of the Federal States’ in September.
